“So how’d you lose your child?” I felt comfortable asking finally, although when he first brought it up I kept a tight lip. I didn’t even expect to see Chuck again. He had given me a lift from the car dealership in the morning, but I had hoped my husband would be available for the second leg. God had a different plan.

The most romantic thing ever was receiving a handwritten invitation in the mail, inviting me to be ready at a certain time, on a certain date, in formal attire. It was clear my kids were taken care of and I could just get dolled up and go.
